Let's face it, all of us would like to be able to just sit home and watch TV or surf the net and make money at it. And there are a lot of programs out there that promise you that it can happen just like that for you. You can do practically nothing and take home more than you made at your nine to five job. These 'pie in the sky' scams are very numerous and are really easy to spot if you know what to look for. Here are some tips for identifying affiliate marketing programs that are frauds:

- If they want you to pay before you can join, avoid them. Would you pay for your meal at a restaurant before you see the menu? If you want to buy a new car, do you pay for it first, and then test drive it? Of course not. It's the same way with affiliate programs. If they want money first, stay away.

- If you can't find any trace of the program you're looking at, it could spell trouble. Research them online. See if they have any history and find out about their activities. It could be that they don't actually exist, and are just a scam to take your money. Don't sign up in the dark with any affiliate marketing program.

- Just like with anything else in life, if it seems too good to turn out true, then leave it alone. There are some affiliate programs that offer you fast millions. They show you pictures of homes and new cars, and tell you all your dreams can come true in just a short time. Affiliate marketing is work, and it takes time before you can realize your profits. So don't be taken in by promises that are like fairy tales.

- Another thing to watch for is if the program details are vague. If you're checking out an affiliate program, and they seem to keep their products and their location a secret, you may want to keep away from them. If there are no contact details, or a phone number, or an address, then you can't possibly know who you're dealing with. Walk away from this type of program quickly.

- If the company you are looking at has 'no referrals', then they definitely are suspicious. Seasoned affiliate marketers are well aware of what companies are good and which ones are bogus. You can go around the marketer networks and forums and ask around about specific companies, and you can get some good honest feedback. If a company can't be recommended by a lot of affiliate marketers, then leave that one alone. The genuinely good ones will get a lot of mention in those circles.

These tips will help you to avoid trouble and to end up with a good reputable affiliate marketing company. There are plenty of good ones out there to be found, if you just know how to avoid the wrong ones.
